A leading psychotherapist conducts regular meetings with an unusual patient for the sake of a global experiment. The patient is a known serial killer. Soon progress is made, and the doctor gains confidence in the patient. However, during the sessions the doctor learns such details that it would be better for him not to know, and this puts the whole experiment and all psychology as a science into question.
